Apple loses iPhone patent lawsuit. Found guilty of infringing on two Nokia Patents.

Apple vs Nokia

This is irony of life !! The company which sues the whole world over protecting its intellectual rights, has for the second time found to be guilty of infringing on Nokia’s patents.

A jury in the US District Court in Delaware has ruled that Apple infringed on three patents owned by MobileMedia Ideas LLC, a patent holding company formed by Sony, Nokia, and MPEG-LA .

The US patents in question are 6,253,075 and 6,427,078, granted to Nokia. These patents had been granted for “incoming call rejection”, and “image capture/transfer“, respectively.

Earlier patent lawsuit win against Apple had fetched Nokia good 600 million one time payment and ongoing royalties. The Judge has yet to schedule a date for a trial to determine the amount Apple will have to pay as the penalty for infringement.

In the long term, the patent system needs to be reformed. In the short term, probably an increase in the royalty that Nokia receives for each iPhone sold. Good news for Nokia.

  2. 3 patents eventually went to court, and Apple was found to be infringing all three. Patents included the camera’s phone and “call handling and call rejection.”
